Come to us, not the Loan Sharks.
Students who are still waiting for funding from Student Finance England are encouraged to contact the University’s Student Finance Centre, rather than seeking help from loan sharks.
The NUS (National Union of Students) has received reports of loan sharks approaching students whose support has been delayed. A loan shark is anyone who is lending money without having a licence from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). Lending money without a licence is illegal.
If you are approached by a loan shark please do not get involved. If you are suffering hardship, please contact the Student Finance Centre for financial support. As a University we offer hardship funds for students who are in financial difficulty. If you haven’t yet received your loan, contact a member of the Centre and they will advise how the University can help you.
The Student Finance Centre is on the second floor of the Nuffield Centre. You can drop by and speak with a member of staff on our duty desk, you don’t need an appointment. Or, you can call 023 9284 3014 or email student.finance@port.ac.uk
If you have you been approached by a loan shark you can report them in confidence by phoning 0300 555 2222, or you can email reportaloanshark@stoploansharks.gov.uk.
