Good news for all library lovers!
Keep on reading and you will be amazed to hear that another library is yet to come to Southsea very soon. Yes! Not only “an exciting state-of-the-art library”, but an IT learning zone, community space for local groups, contact centre for council services and a café are also on their way to Southsea. The facility which is coming to the heart of Southsea’s shopping centre is projected to draw in at least 80,000 visitors every year, especially the brand new library, contact centre and café.
This figure will be a tremendous increase in comparison to the 16,000 Elm Grove library visitors. The building which constitutes a modern café and community space for the comfort of local groups will greatly benefit the members of the community who live in Southsea or visit the area. Not only that, the IT learning zone will broaden the range of available services in Southsea without a doubt. The project is all thanks to the Portsmouth City Council as it will take on the lease of the former Woolworths store, which closed after the business went into administration in 2008. Councillor Lee Hunt, cabinet member for culture and leisure was recorded saying “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to relocate a library into the heart of Southsea.” So all you people out there, look out for the library and don’t be shocked to see a maginificent building along Palmerston Road the next time you pass by!
