Film Review: Chronicle

Chronicle: the story of three friends and their accidental exploitation to the power of telekinesis. Following the character of reclusive and camera obsessed Andrew, the film takes us on a journey through his life; from the ups where he meets Steve (the high school class president) and Matt (his cousin), to the downs where he is beaten by his drunkard father and has to witness his mother suffering from a severe illness.

Andrew has always been by himself, as an only child and even during his schooling years. His cousin thinks he’s weird and has no social skills, and his home life has always been terrible, which you constantly see throughout the film from his decaying bedroom. When given the power of telekinesis, after a while Andrew finally realises that he is stronger than everyone else and even compares himself to the Predator.

This is when the film gets weird. Filmed through a variety of hand held cameras and CCTV (which was done to perfection),  it may leave you psychologically confused due to the downward spiral when Andrew loses one of his friends. This film will have you gripped to your seat and wanting to know what happens next from the very first scene. Full of comedy, action, isolation and themes of the paranormal, Chronicle is definitely a must-see movie!
