The University of Portsmouth’s Students’ Union has been recognised with a silver award by the NUS as part of their ‘Be a Champion’ campaign, which means that UPSU now has Olympic accreditation.
Only 20 other Students’ Unions around the country have been given this honour. This is all thanks to the work that was put in to ‘Be a Champion’ campaign by staff and students.
In honour of the newly awarded accreditation the University of Portsmouth’s Students’ Union has organised some Olympic inspired events.
On Thursday 29th March there was a mini-Olympic style festival for school children from Portsmouth hosted at HMS Temeraire which was organised by both the Union and the University’s UP for Sport programme. There were taster sessions in the morning and cultural workshops in the afternoon.
There will also be an Olympic inspired display hosted in the Cascades shopping centre from 4th-7th May. The exhibition will celebrate the seven values of the modern Olympic and Paralympic Games: respect; excellence; friendship; courage; determination; inspiration and equality.
