Eight tries from Southampton Men’s 2nds saw the hosts run out victors against Portsmouth Men’s 2nds.
Portsmouth faced an uphill challenge from early on as Southampton scored a try shortly after the start of the match to go 7-0 up, the home scrum half touching down under the post.
Two more tries followed in an otherwise quiet first half, and Southampton went into the break leading Pompey by 21-0.
The trend continued into the second half, as Southampton scored two tries within minutes of each other to stretch their lead to 33 points. Both were carbon copies of each other, as the Southampton winger touched down in the corner in quick succession.
Portsmouth remained determined however, and were rewarded shortly after as prop Fin Parry went over from short range. With relentless Pompey pressure drawing more Southampton defenders into the ruck, Parry picked the ball up from the foot of the pile and powered his way over from two yards out.
It proved little more than a consolation in the end however, as the home side ran in three more tries before play was called to an end, and Portsmouth came out on the wrong end of a 50-5 score line.
