Cascades Student Late Night Shopping

Commercial Road shopping centre, Cascades will be hosting a late night student shopping event on Tuesday 22nd September.

The event will run between 6.30pm and 10pm featuring exclusive student discounts and a live DJ.

University of Portsmouth Journalism student Alex Bee, former fashion editor for The Galleon, is looking forward to the night.

The 21-year-old from Somerset, who is just starting her third year at the university, said: “I think students here might be more conservative than in places like London or Bristol but they have their own style, perhaps more grungey.

“The guys like Americana and the lumberjack look and for girls this autumn it’s a Wild West thing with tassels, suede.

“The Seventies are big with flares and big collars and groovy flower patterns but monochrome is back too while girls are also going for more detailing with embroidery and embellishments and out-there items like velvet ankle boots.

“I’m looking forward to it all on Tuesday because I like to hit the high street as well as the independents and there are stores there like Lush which a lot of students like for its natural ethos.”

Cascades Shopping Centre Director Rhoda Joseph is very enthusiastic about this year’s Student Shop-In. She said: “There are over 22,000 students in and around Portsmouth so it is a really important market for us and early evening events like this work really well.

She went on to say, “We will have about 40 stores taking part and many of them will have special offers and great discounts.  We will have a live DJ in the mall so the atmosphere should be really good too.

“This is the third year we have run the event and it’s just growing and getting better and better each time.  As it takes place in the early part of the new university term, it’s a great time to update your wardrobe before the winter really starts.”

Claire Rackham, Deputy Manager at Dorothy Perkins, said that students in Portsmouth were definitely fashion conscious and many are very stylish dressers and she added: “I think it’s a great idea and I’m pleased it is back here again.

“We’re all for it. We know events like this work really well and we’re keen to participate and are offering 20 per cent off across our whole range.

“Students are very much part of our age range and I’m sure there will be a good buzz on the night.”

Admission to the event is free and you can pre-register online at
