Festival of Lights Planned for University

A ‘festival of lights’ is being planned by a first year Portsmouth student.

Robert Alexandru Moisuc, studying Music and Sound Technology, has held a similar event before in his home country of Romania, set up in the city centre of Slatina. Hosting around 200 people, Robert has set his sights much higher this time.

“Our target for Portsmouth is around 2,000 people,” he told The Galleon. “It isn’t an event just for university students, but for any other student as well as locals.” Plans to hold the event at Southsea Common are still being arranged with the council.

“Ideally, it would be held in September 2016, during accommodation move-in or induction week. It wouldn’t be an official fresher’s event, but a fun, free occasion. We won’t be providing alcohol,” he laughed, “but people are welcome to bring their own.”

The festival of lights would entail “everybody bringing some kind of light – glowsticks, mobile phones, torches. We are looking for sponsors so that we can acquire a big stage and speakers. We had some problems with the DJ at our last event, but we’re going to get someone with lots of experience here.” Having spoken to members of UPSU TV and Pure FM, where he hosts ‘The Pure Mix’ on Sunday evenings, Robert and his connections at Uniteam Production are confident that advertisements will reach a large number of the public.
