The University of Portsmouth Tennis Women’s 1st team annihilated their first opponents, Reading University, with a 12-0 victory.
Despite Reading turning up 55 minutes late, the Portsmouth team were not distracted and carried on business as usual.
As the matches got underway it was clear who the stronger side was, with all Portsmouth players beating Reading in straight sets.

Silvia Tumova, who plays number 1 for the team, beat Reading’s Diane Perraud 6-0 6-3, an easy triumph. Tumova commented: “It was a good match, I really enjoyed playing it as my first match of the season and I’m pleased with the outcome.” Tumova went on to win her doubles with partner Caitlyn Hardy 6-0 6-0.
Emma Boucher, Captain of the Women’s 1st team and UTC, said after the matches finished: “I’m very happy with the turnout today. I think everyone brought their game and played some good tennis.”
Boucher played with partner Katie Millar in doubles, which they dominated 6-2 6-2. Boucher added: “As it’s ‘This Girl Can’ week it was great to represent the team and play amongst three strong female players.”
The Women’s 1st team have begun the BUCS season with a clear success.
The team can now look forward to and hope that this success will carry them through to promotion.
