Vegan Eating

Editor, Lucy Morris, reveals some of her favourite vegan menus at chain restaurants across the UK

With 2018 being the biggest year for veganism, it is no surprise that more and more restaurants are adapting their menus in order to cater for vegans. Being a vegan myself, I have been visiting some of the biggest chain restaurants in the UK and testing their new vegan menus. Here are some of my favourites…

Frankie and Benny’s
Not the first place you would expect to have an extensive range of vegan options but a place you should definitely add to your list. From their ‘Chickenless Nuggets’ to their ‘Mac No Cheese’, there is something you are bound to enjoy here. Students can also receive 25% off their bill now!

Yo Sushi
Yo Sushi prides itself on being able to cater for vegetarians and vegans alike, even having a ‘Green Wednesday’ where you can enjoy a range of different vegetarian and vegan dishes for just £2.30 each. Their hot food is also taste bud tingling, my favourite being the ‘Pumpkin Katsu’ and ‘Vegetable Yakisoba’. As well as Frankie and Benny’s, students can also receive 25% off their bill now!

Pret A Manger
A super quick and easy place to stop for a light bite or some lunch. Pret have a vast array of vegan soups, which are all incredibly tasty, and below 250 calories! As well as this, they have a few salad boxes and wraps that are vegan friendly.

Pizza Express
Yes, Pizza Express have also expanded their menu to make it vegan friendly! Their new ‘Vegan Puttanesca’ is the pizza you never knew you needed. With jackfruit marinated in a Puttanesca sauce on top, accompanied by the likes of olives and capers, you really cannot go wrong. The menu at the restaurant is extensive so you are bound to find something that tingles those taste buds! Students can also receive 30% off food and drink from Sundays to Thursdays.

All Bar One
One of my favourite chain restaurants’ vegan menus! From the highly acclaimed ‘Beyond Meat’ burger to their vegan lasagne, their range of plant-based foods is unique and oh so tasty. And for you sweet tooths out there, they also have a few desserts that are vegan too.

Toby Carvery
Who knew that you could have a roast dinner at the biggest carvery restaurant in the UK and not feel guilty about it? Toby Carvery have three vegan options on their menu: Grilled Aubergine Stack, Roast Mushroom and Ale Pie, and Root Vegetable Roast. Some of their sides are vegan too including the all-important roast potatoes. You really can get your Sunday dinner fix with all the plant-based goodness.

These are just a handful of the chain restaurants across the UK that offer a vegan menu. For more information, visit: www.veganuary.com/eating-out
